Question
Spent $320 on ads, got 47 add-to-carts but only 2 purchases. What's the issue?

I'm really confused about my numbers and need help understanding what's going wrong.
Campaign details:
- Running Facebook ads for 10 days
- Total spend: $320
- Product: Posture corrector brace ($36.99)
- Link clicks: 428
- Landing page views: 391
- Add to carts: 47
- Initiated checkouts: 12
- Purchases: 2
So people are clicking my ads (good sign I think?), they're adding to cart at a decent rate (47 out of 391 = 12% add-to-cart rate), but then something happens and they don't buy.
What's really confusing me is that 47 people added to cart but only 12 even STARTED checkout. That means 35 people added to cart and then just... closed the page? And then of the 12 who started checkout, only 2 actually completed it.
I feel like I'm bleeding potential customers at every step and I don't understand why. Is this normal drop-off or is something seriously broken?
The product itself seems solid - posture correctors are popular, the price is competitive, and my ad creative is getting good engagement (lots of likes and shares).
Where should I even start looking to fix this? The product page? The cart page? The checkout? I'm lost.

WOW this is incredibly detailed, thank you! I just went through my checkout and found SO many problems:
1. Cart page takes 5 seconds to load (!!!!)
2. Shipping shows as $8.99 on cart page (not mentioned on product page)
3. Checkout requires account creation
4. I'm asking for way too many fields including "apartment number" as required
5. Delivery estimate says "18-28 business days" in red text
I literally wouldn't buy from my own store lol. No wonder people are abandoning. Fixing all of this today!

also for health/medical products like posture correctors you NEED to have clear return policy and sizing guide. people are worried about:
- will it fit me?
- what if it makes my pain worse?
- what if its uncomfortable?
if your site doesn't address these concerns prominently people will add to cart but chicken out before buying. add a sizing chart, guarantee, and real customer photos if you can

Your funnel is leaking at TWO major points. Let me break down what's happening:
**LEAK #1: Cart to Checkout (47 → 12 people)**
35 people added to cart and left without even starting checkout. This is NOT normal - you're losing 74% of people who showed buying intent.
This happens because of:
**A) Cart page issues:**
- Does your cart page load slowly? If it takes 3+ seconds, people bounce
- Is the "Checkout" button obvious and above the fold on mobile?
- Are you showing surprise costs on the cart page (shipping, taxes)?
- Do you have any pop-ups or distractions on the cart page that make people leave?
**B) Shipping cost shock:**
People see "$36.99" on your product page, add to cart, then see "$36.99 + $9.99 shipping" on the cart page and immediately leave. For a posture corrector (which they can get on Amazon with Prime shipping), an extra $10 feels like a ripoff.
**Solution:** Either include shipping in your product price ($44.99 with "FREE SHIPPING" badge) or clearly show shipping cost on the product page BEFORE they add to cart.
**LEAK #2: Checkout Started to Purchase (12 → 2 people)**
You lost 83% of people who actually began checkout. This is TERRIBLE and screams checkout friction.
Common killers:
**A) Forced account creation** - Are you making people create an account to buy? Instant 40-50% drop in conversions. Enable guest checkout NOW.
**B) Too many form fields** - Every unnecessary field costs you 5-10% of conversions. Do you really need "Company name" or "Phone number" for a $37 posture corrector?
**C) Delivery time shown at checkout** - If your checkout page says "Estimated delivery: 15-25 business days" people will abandon. They want it THIS WEEK for their back pain, not next month.
**D) Limited payment options** - Credit card only? Add PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay. Different people trust different payment methods.
**E) No trust signals at checkout** - Checkout is where anxiety peaks. You need: SSL badges, money-back guarantee, "Secure checkout" messaging, customer service contact visible.
**For posture correctors specifically:**
People buying these are in PAIN right now. Their back hurts today. They want:
- Fast shipping (or at least the illusion of it)
- Easy returns (in case it doesn't fit)
- Proof it works (reviews/testimonials visible at checkout)
- Trust that this isn't a scam
**Your action plan:**
1. Go through your own purchase flow on mobile RIGHT NOW
2. Note every moment where you hesitate or get annoyed
3. Fix those friction points first
4. Test checkout as a guest (many people don't realize guest checkout is broken)
With your current numbers, if you just fix these leaks:
- 47 add-to-carts → 25 checkouts started (instead of 12)
- 25 checkouts → 10 purchases (instead of 2)
That's 5X more sales with the SAME ad spend. The problem isn't your ads or product - it's your conversion funnel.
