Question
My store looks professional but conversion rate is 0.7% - what am I missing?
Posted by •11/5/2025
I've put a lot of effort into making my store look good. I paid for a premium theme, I have high-quality product photos, my logo looks professional, everything is branded and cohesive.
But my conversion rate is still terrible at 0.7%. I'm spending about $60/day on Facebook ads and barely breaking even with 1-2 sales per day.
My store sells fitness equipment (resistance bands, yoga mats, foam rollers). Products are priced between $29-59. My ads are getting clicks and traffic is coming in, but people just aren't buying.
I don't get it. I see stores that look way worse than mine (like obviously dropshipping with AliExpress photos) and they're making sales. Meanwhile I invested in making my store look professional and it's not converting.
What could I be missing? Is there something beyond just "looking good" that makes people actually buy?
I have:
✓ Premium Shopify theme ($180)
✓ Professional logo from Fiverr
✓ High-quality product photos (edited supplier images)
✓ Detailed product descriptions
✓ Trust badges
✓ About Us page with brand story
But still 0.7% conversion rate. What am I doing wrong?

Holy crap I just checked my page speed and it's 38/100 on mobile. The page takes 7.2 seconds to fully load. I had NO idea this was even an issue because I always tested on my laptop with fast WiFi.
Also just went through checkout on my phone and yeah... it's kind of annoying actually. The buy button is weirdly small and I have to zoom to click it properly.
I've been so focused on aesthetics that I completely ignored functionality. This explains so much. Thank you!

This happened to me too! I spent so much time making my store pretty that I forgot to make it FUNCTIONAL.
Turned out my "premium theme" was loading 2MB of unnecessary code and took 8 seconds to load on mobile. Switched to a simpler theme that loaded in 2 seconds and conversion rate doubled literally overnight.
Pretty is useless if people bounce before the page even loads.

Okay, this is a common trap and I'm glad you asked. Looking professional ≠ Converting well.
You can have the prettiest store in the world but if it doesn't address the fundamental conversion barriers, it won't sell. Think of it like this: A beautiful restaurant with slow service and confusing menus will lose to an ugly restaurant with fast service and clear ordering.
**Here's what you're probably missing (because everyone does):**
**1. SPEED**
How fast does your store load on mobile? Check it right now on your phone with WiFi turned OFF (use cellular data). If it takes more than 2-3 seconds, you're losing 40%+ of visitors immediately.
Premium themes are often BLOATED with features you don't need, making them slow. A "worse looking" store that loads in 1 second will convert better than a beautiful store that takes 6 seconds.
**2. MOBILE CHECKOUT EXPERIENCE**
80% of your ad traffic is mobile. Have you actually gone through the entire checkout process on your phone? Common issues:
- Buttons too small to tap easily
- Forms that don't auto-fill
- Pop-ups covering the buy button
- Images that make you scroll forever before seeing the price
- Checkout fields that are annoying to type on mobile keyboard
**3. FRICTION POINTS**
Looking professional doesn't remove friction. Check:
- Do you require account creation? (Instant 40% conversion killer)
- Is shipping cost hidden until checkout? (Another 30% gone)
- How many clicks from landing page to purchase? (Should be 2-3 max)
- Do you have guest checkout enabled?
- Are payment options limited? (Need PayPal, Apple Pay, Shop Pay)
**4. PROOF & URGENCY**
Your store looks nice but does it give people a REASON to buy NOW?
- Reviews with photos (not just star ratings)
- "127 people bought this today" social proof
- "Only 8 left in stock" scarcity
- "Sale ends tonight" urgency
- "Free shipping on orders over $50" incentive
Professional design builds trust, but it doesn't create action. You need triggers.
**5. THE FITNESS EQUIPMENT SPECIFIC PROBLEM**
For fitness products, people have specific anxieties:
- "Will this actually work for MY fitness level?"
- "Is this the same quality as the $60 one on Amazon?"
- "What if it breaks or doesn't fit?"
Your beautiful store needs to address these concerns explicitly:
- Show the product being used by REAL people (not just product shots)
- Have a prominent "30-day money-back guarantee"
- Show durability tests or quality comparisons
- Include a size/resistance guide
- Real customer transformation photos (if possible)
**6. PRICE TRANSPARENCY**
For $29-59 fitness products, people are price-sensitive. They WILL compare you to Amazon. Your value proposition needs to be crystal clear:
- Why is YOUR resistance band worth $39 when Amazon has them for $15?
- Is it higher quality? Better design? Comes with a workout guide?
- Make this obvious, not hidden in paragraph 4 of your description
**Here's what I want you to do:**
1. Check your mobile page speed (Google PageSpeed Insights)
2. Buy your own product on mobile, note every friction point
3. Look at your checkout analytics - where are people dropping off?
4. Add reviews, urgency, and social proof if missing
5. Make sure guest checkout is enabled
6. Ensure shipping costs are transparent upfront
A store that looks "okay" but converts at 3% makes WAY more money than a store that looks amazing but converts at 0.7%.
Function > Beauty when it comes to conversion rate.
