How do you test shipping price without losing customers?

I want to test free shipping versus paid shipping, but I am scared that paid shipping will destroy conversion. How do you test shipping price properly?

I was only showing shipping in checkout, I will move it to the product page.

Be transparent on the product page. Hidden shipping kills trust more than the actual amount.

A simple test is free shipping vs slightly higher product price. Many people hate seeing shipping added at the end.
